I am a snob when it comes to my hair care. I like the expensive salon products to keep up with the fortune I spend on my hair. When I heard that famed celebrity hair stylist Mark Hill was bringing his salon professional hair care line Mark Hill Hair across the pond, I knew I had to try the award winning products. Not only did I get a chance to try the products, I was given the change to actually meet Mark and have him do my hair while I was in Chicago last week. Yes! Mark Hill actually did my hair.

Mark is the sweetest and most down to earth hair stylist that I ever met. Ever. He made me feel so comfortable, like I had been a life-long client. He really is a one man wonder -- stylist, formulator, photographer, marketing genius, and dad just to name a few. He works with a chemist to formulate each and every product that he uses on his own clients in his own salon. Everything is tested in his salon, so it has to work. Now, the professional salon brand products are available here - and for a fraction of our usual salon prices, at Walgreens. Nothing in the range is over $12.00.

Currently there are 17 products out of his 99 product line available to us here in the US. I cannot wait until the end of the year when more of his products will be making their way into Walgreens doors, because they are good. The products available include shampoos, conditioners and a host of styling products. He even has his own line of brushes, hair dryers, curling wands, straighteners and the amazing hot jumbo velcro rollers. These Rock Rollers are a definite must have, but those won't be here until the end of the year.

Mark quickly figured out that I liked big hair, so he started with his Big It Up! Shampoo and Big is Better! Conditioner on my hair. It smells fantastic and did not weigh down my hair. He then let me apply the divine MiracOILicious Moroccan Argan Oil myself. He said I only needed it on the ends of my hair. This rivals my more expesive oil treatment I currently was using, so I ran right out to Walgreens to purchase this as soon as I got home. The one product that I cannot wait for is the Big Blow! Volume Spray. This did wonders on my hair and I need this in my life asap.

Getting Healthy with Nutrisystem: Week 1.

I have just completed my first week with Nutrisystem and I have one word to share that sums up my week: overwhelmed.

It's overwhelming to make a life change such as this. I am getting healthy and starting with this weight loss. Making the change and putting it into action is not as easy as I thought. It is overwhelming to stick to the program. And all of the food is overwhelming itself.

I traveled for a few days over this week and didn't really get "on program" until Sunday, but it has been pretty routine since then. Well, except for fitting in all of the food. My plan has me eating 6 times a day. Yes! 6 times. And while the portions are smaller, the food is very filling and I feel stuffed most of the day. There has not been one day yet, where I have fit in all of my food. Crazy, right? I know I need to do so in order to make this program work, and that it my goal for next week.

My problem starts early in the day as I am not used to eating as soon as I wake up. I usually have a cup of tea in the morning when I get up around 6:30 or 7:00. I usually don't eat until 10:00 or so. This does not work with the Nutrisystem plan, so I am making some modifications. I am eating one of the Nutrisystem breakfasts (the Cinnamon Streusel Muffin, pictured above, is my favorite!) with my tea now. Then I am having my protein drink around 10:00. This is when I am actually supposed to be having my morning snack or PowerFuel, and I have yet to work that in. I will figure it out.

Even without staying 100% on the plan, I saw a nice amount of weight-loss this week. I hear that a larger than normal weight loss is pretty typical when starting a program, or life change like this. I am super excited to tell you that I lost 4.5 pounds this week. I am on my way!

Getting Healthy with Nutrisystem: Week 2.

Into my second week with Nutrisystem, I have learned that for me, planning is crucial. Most importantly, I need to plan my day around my food.

Like I said in my week 1 update, this plan includes a lot of food. To keep on track, I need to plan what I am going to eat and when I am going to eat it. I need to plan my grocery shopping, because there are only certain foods that I can supplement with. I am super thankful for the brand name shopping list that my friend Nancy (who just so happens to have her very own successful Nutrisystem story) pointed me to. It is one of the many things that Nutrisystem provides as far as support.

In addition to planning the food that I am going to eat and shop for, I need to plan my exercise, because that is very important to the success of Nutrisystem. The plan suggests doing 10 minutes of exercise three times a day for a total of 30 minutes. For those that do not exercise on a daily basis, this is easy to plan. I already have a pretty consistent exercise schedule, so this is simple for me, as I walk for 35-40 minutes every morning already. It was actually the easiest part of my planning this week.

With all my planning, I managed to stay on track this week and saw another good weight loss. This week I lost 3 pounds, bringing my total weight loss to -7.5 pounds.

Makeup Wars: My Must Have Hair Tools.

I am obsessed with a great blowout. If I could have a professional blowout everyday, I would be one happy gal - with great hair. Seriously? Don't you feel better when you're rocking a beautiful bouncy blowout? Luckily, I have learned to do my own blowout at home. The key to the perfect blowout is the right tools and products.

For products, I like a product that initially smoothes my hair, as in defrizz and seals the cuticle to prevent it from fizzing in the first place. I use the original Moroccanoil Treatment for that. I also like a volumizing mousse, because I like a lot of volume and need the extra hold it gives. My current mousse of choice is Dove Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse. Finally, I need a hairspray to hold my style in place, and I only use L'Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray (unscented) for this finishing touch.

For tools, I need a great hair dryer and brush. The best hair dryer I have ever tried is from the famed blow dry bar, Drybar. They only do blowouts, so I trust that their tools are the best.

Must Have Hair Tools and How to Get the Perfect DIY Blowout

I use the bright yellow Buttercup Blow Dryer. This professional hair dryer has a powerful 1875 watts of power that is surprisingly quiet. It delivers a powerful airflow while being gentle on hair. It has three temperature settings, two speed settings, a self-locking Cool Shot button, and a narrow concentrator for fast styling. It is super lightweight, so my arms never get tired. My hair is dry faster with this dryer than any I have ever tested as well.

Along with the dryer, I depend on the Full Pint Medium Round Brush. This helps to smooth my hair while adding in big soft curls.

To aid in drying my hair in sections, I use the Drybars Hold Me Clips. These have a self-locking system that allows for large sectioning. They grip the hair gently, so I never experience pulling.

To do a great blowout at home, work in small sections. This is where the clips are essential. I usually work with seven or eight sections, but only clip off four sections at a time, on each side of my head. I dry each section at a time. I hold my hair taut with the brush making sure I point the dryer nozzle down toward the hair to seal in the cuticle. Once the section is dried, I wrap the ends around the round brush and again, pointing the nozzle down, add extra heat to the the section I am curling for about 10 seconds and then hit the cool button for about 30 seconds to lock in the curl. I move to the next section until my hair is completely dry. After all the clips are out, I curl back a few of the pieces that need more curl, again using the round brush and a quick heat/cool blow. When finished, I usually flip my head over and spray with my favorite hair spray and then flip back upright. I then just use my hands to separate some pieces and then make sure every hair is in place before I give it another mist of hairspray.

This secret to this mascara is obviously the multi-dimensional brush and straight forward application process. Now that you have seen it, let's take a look at it and how it works.

First, I didn't really know where to open, but quickly figured out to simply lift off the red cap. Inside, I see what looks like a paint brush in a cover. I pulled straight up (hard), and out came the little paint brush looking device.

This is no paint brush I must say. It is actually a comb that is curved a bit, just like the shape of the eye. On the comb are various lengths of soft plastic bristles that are crisscrossed on top of the comb. In the comb lies a ton of mascara. It actually holds 40% more mascara than an average mascara brush, making it easier to get the formula into lashes.

The handle is hinged and moves. I played with it to find where it exactly it felt most comfortable close to my eye. I did find it easy to hols once I had it correctly positioned, close to my eye.

The application process took some getting used too. I am so used to holding a wand horizontally over my lashes. To be honest though, by applying straight on, it is easier to see and get to each and every lash. It is especially great for bottom lashes, in my opinion.

The formula itself, was nice, and I found that I just need two coats to get a nice defined look with a lot of volume. Because you do get a lot of mascara on the brush, it does need a minute or two to dry between coats. I also don't suggest over using, because three or more coats can start to get clumpy. The mascara seems to last most of the day and I did not experience any smudging or flaking. With practice, this mascara definitely gets the job done.
